A figure crowned with flowers stands beside a lion, one hand resting on its mane and the other beneath its jaw.
She is not restraining it. Her hands are gentle and the lion is calm. There is no chain, no weapon, no struggle in the picture at all. Whatever has happened between them happened before this moment, and it did not happen by force.
Above her head floats the same horizontal figure of eight that appeared over the Magician, the sign of the infinite. This is power again, and it is a different kind of power.
She wears white and a garland of flowers, with a chain of roses at her waist. The lion is fully itself, mane and teeth and all. Nothing has been removed from it.
Behind them, low green hills. The setting is peaceful because the difficulty is already over.
She is the eighth teacher, and she is the Chariot's correction. The Chariot held opposing forces together by will and it was exhausting to watch. Strength does the same work by patience, and nobody has to be defeated.
Some decks number this card eleven and place Justice here. Both are ancient and both are correct.
