A hooded figure stands alone at the top of a snow covered peak, holding a lantern.
He has climbed. This is the summit the Fool saw in the distance on the first card, and everything between has been the climb.
Inside the lantern is a six pointed star, two triangles overlaid. Above and below, joined. It is a small light and he holds it high, which means it illuminates almost nothing of the ground beneath his feet. He can see the next step and nothing further. That is all a lantern is for.
In his other hand is a long staff, the same wood that has appeared through the deck, now used for steadying rather than directing.
His head is bowed and his face is turned down. He is not looking at the view. There is no one else in the card and no landscape to speak of, only snow and dark sky.
He is the ninth teacher. Strength taught the Fool to be gentle with what is difficult in him. The Hermit takes him away from everybody so he can find out what is actually there.
