A veiled figure sits still between two pillars, one dark and one pale, each marked with a single letter.
She is seated at a threshold. Behind her hangs a veil worked with pomegranates and palms, and behind the veil is water. She does not move aside to show you what is there. If you want to pass, you go through the veil yourself.
On her head is a crown of two horns with a full circle between them, the moon in three phases. At her feet lies a crescent moon. The moon governs tides, cycles and everything that moves without being pushed.
In her lap she holds a partly hidden scroll. Some of it shows. Most of it does not. This is knowledge that is not withheld out of cruelty but because it cannot be handed over. It has to be arrived at.
A solar cross rests on her chest, the four quarters in balance.
She is the second teacher the Fool meets, and she is the opposite of the first. The Magician told him to act. The High Priestess tells him to be still, and that some things only arrive in the quiet.
