A crowned queen sits on a stone throne at the very edge of still water, holding an ornate covered cup in both hands and studying it.
Her cup is the only closed one in the suit. Every other cup in these fourteen cards is open: offered, exchanged, raised, spilled, overflowing. Hers has a lid, and it is the most elaborate vessel in the deck.
She is looking at it rather than out at us. Her whole attention is inward.
Her throne sits on the shore with the water reaching her feet. She is at the boundary between land and sea, between what can be spoken and what cannot, and she is entirely comfortable there.
The stones around her feet are smooth.
This shore has been worn by a great deal of water over a long time.
