· The Seven Of Pentacles ·

MINOR ARCANA

Seven. Patience. Waiting for what you planted.

A figure leans on a long staff, resting from work, looking at a tall vine heavy with discs.

He has stopped. Both hands are on the staff and his weight is on it, and this is the pause partway through rather than the end.

His expression is not satisfied. He is assessing. Looking at what has grown and calculating whether it was worth what it took.

The vine is thriving. Whatever he did earlier in the season worked, and the discs are on it in quantity.

One disc lies on the ground at his feet, apart from the rest. Something already harvested, or something dropped.

Nothing in this card is happening.

It is entirely a card of standing still and remaining patient.

- Upright -

Patience. Assessment. Long term investment. Waiting.

The Seven of Pentacles upright is the pause to look at what you have grown.

Work was done a while ago and it is producing. Not finished, producing. Where this card appears, you are at the stage where results have started to appear and the thing is not yet complete.

It is a card of patience and specifically the difficult kind: the patience required when something is working slowly. Fast progress is easy to stay committed to. This is the long middle where you have to keep going on partial evidence.

There is honest assessment in it. He is not admiring the vine, he is evaluating it. Where this card appears, it is a reasonable moment to look at whether the investment is returning what it should, in work, in money, in a relationship, in a skill.

The card does not usually recommend stopping. Fruit is on the vine. Pulling it up now to check the roots is how people lose harvests.

Wait. Assess honestly.

Then keep going.

- Reversed -

Impatience. Poor return. Wasted effort. Giving up too soon.

Reversed, the waiting has run out or the return is not there.

The most common reading is impatience. Wanting the result now, abandoning something that was working because it was not working fast enough. Reversed, this card asks how long you have actually given it.

It can mean poor return. Effort that genuinely has not produced, an investment that will not recover, a project that has consumed more than it will ever return. Reversed, that is worth facing plainly rather than continuing on hope.

The two readings look identical from inside, which is the difficulty. The test is usually whether anything at all has grown. If there is fruit and you are impatient, wait. If there is nothing after a full season, stop.

There is also the reading of effort in the wrong place.

Working hard on something that was never going to yield, while something else went untended.

- in Major Life Domains -

- Love -

Upright

A relationship developing slowly. Real progress, and not at the pace you wanted. Also assessing whether it is going somewhere.

Reversed

Impatience with someone's pace, or a relationship you have invested in heavily with little coming back.

- Career and Money -

Upright

Work in progress. A long project partway through, results beginning to show. Keep going.

With money, an investment maturing slowly. Do not touch it.

Reversed

A venture that is not returning, or impatience with something that needs more time. Look honestly at which.

With money, a poor investment. Cut it rather than defending it.

- Health -

Upright

Slow steady progress. It is working even though it does not feel like it. Give it another season.

Reversed

Frustration at slow results, or an approach that genuinely is not working. Review it with a professional rather than abandoning it.

- Yes or No -

Upright

Yes, in time.

Reversed

Not this. The return is not there.
