· The Seven Of Swords ·

MINOR ARCANA

Seven. Strategy. Taking what you can carry.

A figure steals away from a camp with five swords gathered awkwardly in his arms, glancing back over his shoulder.

Two swords remain behind him, still standing upright in the ground.

He could not carry them all and he did not stop to work out how.

He is walking on his toes. The whole posture is quiet and quick, someone leaving before anyone notices.

The swords are held by the blades. He has grabbed them wrongly, in a hurry, and that is a good way to cut your hands.

Behind him, tents and a distant fire.

A camp with people in it, and he is going alone.

The backward glance is the tell.

Whatever this is, he expects to be followed.

- Upright -

Strategy. Deception. Acting alone. Getting away with it.

The Seven of Swords upright is the clever move made quietly.

Someone is operating without full disclosure. Taking a shortcut, holding information back, doing a thing and planning to explain it later or not at all. Where this card appears, that is either being done to you or by you.

It is not automatically a card of villainy. Sometimes the strategic move is the correct one: not showing your whole hand in a negotiation, leaving a situation without announcing it, protecting information that is yours. Discretion and deception share a card here, and the difference is in the intent.

There is independence in it. Acting alone, trusting your own judgement over the group's, going around a process that was not going to work. That takes nerve.

The cost is in the detail. He left two swords behind and cut his hands on the five he took. Rushed cleverness usually leaves something behind and takes some damage in the process.

If someone in your life fits this card, do not confront it head on.

Verify quietly instead.

- Reversed -

Caught out. Confession. Coming clean. Self deception.

Reversed, the escape does not work.

The most common reading is being found out. The shortcut discovered, the omission noticed, the story not holding up. Reversed, this card marks the point where something concealed becomes visible.

It can mean confession. Coming clean voluntarily, returning what was taken, telling the truth before you are asked. Reversed, that is available and it costs far less than being caught.

Reversed frequently indicates self deception, which is the version most people miss. The story told so often that you now believe it, the omission you have stopped noticing you are making.

If that lands, it will land immediately.

There is also the reading of getting help.

Stopping the solo operation and telling someone what you have been managing alone.
