· The Three Of Wands ·

MINOR ARCANA

Three. Progress. Watching what you set in motion.

A figure stands on high ground with his back to us, looking out over a wide bay where ships are sailing.

The wands are planted now. All three are in the ground, and he stands between them with one hand resting on the nearest. Where the Two held a wand ready to carry, the Three has committed them to the earth.

The ships are already out on the water. This is the difference between the two cards and the whole of this one. Something has been sent. It is out there now, moving, and it is no longer in his hands.

He is not anxious. He is watching.

There is nothing further to do at this stage except wait to see what comes back.

Behind the water, distant hills.

The world is wider than the harbour and he knows it.

- Upright -

Progress. Expansion. Waiting. Foresight.

The Three of Wands upright says it is underway.

The decision was made, the work was done, and the results are now in motion somewhere you cannot see them. Where this card appears, the correct action is usually patience rather than more effort. Pushing at it now will not make the ships come in faster.

This is a card of expansion. Something is growing beyond where it started: a business reaching further, a plan working, an opportunity opening onto a bigger one. It often marks the point where local becomes wider, and it carries travel and distance with it.

There is foresight in it. Standing on high ground is a position of perspective, and this card suggests you can see further than the people around you at the moment. Trust what you can see coming.

The waiting is the difficulty. It is not passive waiting, it is the specific discomfort of having done the work and having no control over the result. That is the phase you are in. It ends.

Something you sent out is coming back to you.

- Reversed -

Delay. Setback. Narrow vision. Impatience.

Reversed, the ships are late or the view has narrowed.

The most common reading is delay. Something in progress has slowed, an expected return has not arrived, plans have shifted for reasons outside your control. Reversed, this card asks for patience it knows you have run out of.

It can also mean a setback in something already underway. Not a failure. A correction, a lesson arriving mid-voyage, a plan meeting reality and needing adjustment.

Reversed can indicate narrow vision. Standing on high ground and looking only at your feet. Thinking too small for what is actually available, or refusing to consider anything beyond the immediate.

There is also impatience. Interfering with something that was working, pulling the thing up to check the roots.

Reversed, the card asks you to leave it alone a while longer.

- in Major Life Domains -

- Love -

Upright

Something developing at its own pace. A relationship growing, or someone arriving from further away than you expected.

The card counsels patience. It is moving, and it is not moving on your schedule.

Reversed

Waiting longer than expected, or a connection that has stalled at a distance.

Reversed can also mean thinking too small about what you want from a relationship.

- Career and Money -

Upright

Expansion. A business growing, work reaching a wider audience, results arriving from effort already spent. Strong for international or long distance work.

With money, returns arriving on something previously invested.

Reversed

Delays and setbacks in something underway. Shipping, timing, other people's schedules.

With money, a return slower than projected. Generally a delay rather than a loss.

- Health -

Upright

Steady improvement from something already begun. Results arriving from consistency rather than intensity.

Reversed

Progress slower than hoped. Give it longer before changing approach.

- Yes or No -

Upright

Yes, and it is already in motion.

Reversed

Yes, but later than you'd like.
