· The Two Of Wands ·

MINOR ARCANA

Two. Planning. The decision made from safety.

A figure stands on the rampart of a castle holding a small globe in one hand, looking out over the sea.

He is not looking at what he already owns. His back is to it. The castle is behind him and beneath him, and everything in his posture is turned toward the horizon.

One wand is fixed to the wall beside him. The other is in his hand. One is planted and one is portable, which is the whole question of this card: stay, or take it with you.

The globe in his hand is small enough to hold and it is the entire world. This is somebody who has understood the scale of what is possible and has not yet moved toward any of it.

He is high up and entirely safe.

That is comfortable and it is also the difficulty.

Nothing is forcing him to leave.

- Upright -

Planning. Decision. Future vision. First steps.

The Two of Wands upright is the moment after the spark, when the idea has to become a plan.

Something is being considered seriously. You can see what it could be, you have some sense of the scale of it, and you are standing at the point where it becomes real or stays a thought. The card says look properly before you move, and then move.

There is vision in it. Where the Ace was heat, this is direction. What are you actually building, and where does it end up? The globe in the hand is the reminder that you are allowed to want something larger than what you currently have.

This is also a card of leaving. The castle is comfortable and the horizon is not, and something in your life is asking whether you will step off the wall. Where this card appears, the decision is usually between a known good situation and an unknown better one.

Plan properly, and set a date. The Two of Wands can stand on that rampart for years if nobody makes it move.

- Reversed -

Indecision. Fear of the unknown. Playing it safe. Poor planning.

Reversed, the figure stays on the wall.

The most common reading is fear of leaving. The plan exists, the horizon is visible, and the castle is warm. Reversed, this card names the choice of comfort over expansion and asks whether you are calling it prudence.

It can also mean genuine indecision. Two options, both viable, and no willingness to close one off. The longer that runs the more it costs, because both options quietly expire.

Reversed can indicate poor planning. Moving without looking, or a plan built on assumptions that have not been checked. This is the inverse of the first reading and equally common.

Sometimes it points to a plan disrupted. Something outside your control has changed the ground, and the map you made no longer matches the terrain.

- in Major Life Domains -

- Love -

Upright

A decision about where this is going. Considering the future of a relationship seriously, or deciding whether to pursue someone.

If you are single, this can mean deciding what you actually want before looking for it.

Reversed

Indecision. Keeping options open, or staying in something comfortable because leaving is harder.

It can also mean waiting for someone else to decide.

- Career and Money -

Upright

Planning a move. A new direction being mapped out, expansion considered, a business plan taking shape. Also travel and work across distance.

With money, a longer view. Plan for the year rather than the month.

Reversed

Staying in a role that is comfortable and finished. Or a plan that has not been examined properly.

With money, a decision deferred that is costing you by being deferred.

- Health -

Upright

Making a plan and committing to it. A good time to set an intention and put dates against it.

Reversed

Intending to start and not starting. The plan exists and nothing has changed.

- Yes or No -

Upright

Yes, once you have planned it.

Reversed

Not yet. Something is undecided or unexamined.
